The CPU identification string stored in the processor.


Processor familiy, model, and stepping. This version, together with the frequency, identifies the CPU model.


Specification as advertised by the manufacturer. This is the only data not coming directly from the chip but from a database delivered with the program and picked from the manufacturers data sheet. Move your mouse cursor over this entry for further details.


Supported features of the CPU. Move mouse cursor here for more details. Among others, lists the MMX capabilities, SSE level, and 64-bit availability.

Vendor ID

The manufacturer identification string stored in the processor. (Only displayed if the vendor is not already included in Processor.)

Clock Speed

Timed and reference clock speed of the CPU. If Intel Speedstep or AMD PowerNow is activated, the processor may run slower internally, or have pause states, but the reference or maximum speed remains the same.

The clock speed is timed on one core of a multi-core CPU. You may right-click and select which core. However, so far all processors use the same speed throughout the die.

Clock Speed is updated regularly and you may configure the update intervall. Right-click on this entry and select Speed Poll Intervall.

(Accuracy: On a 3 GHz processor we measure 30 billion cycles in 10 seconds. This is exact up to 10 digits, however, we then round to 6 digits (4 before and 2 behind the decimal point) which is sufficiently exact and sound. Admittedly, the first two digits would do for most people, which is why we display Total Speed in GHz with only one decimal place.)


Number of cores actually available for programs on this computer and this version of Windows. May be less than advertised if the BIOS doesn't support it ("downcored") or on older Windows versions.

Total Speed

Total clock speed for all cores combined (timed and reference). To reach that number, of course, you would need programs that scale properly.

Core °C/°F

Core temperatures for each core. Read-out of the Digital Temperature Sensor (DTS), directly on the die, for each core.

Below Tj

Since Tj may not be determined, this is the more reliable "distance to melting point". However, this translates into a real-world temperature Core °, which is usually easier to comprehend. (On Intel processors this is the value measured, on AMD processors Core ° is the one measured.)


Resolution of temperature values (only displayed if greater than 1°C/1.8°F).

L1, L2, L3 Cache

Size and specification of processor cache. If Level 1 data and Level 1 instruction cache are equal, only one is displayed. Move your mouse cursor over this entry for full specifications.

Level 1 cache is part of each core. Level 2 cache may be exclusive for each core (AMD) or can be shared by two cores (Intel). Some chips dedicate a smaller L2 to each core, and include a large Level 3 cache shared by all cores, like the announced Deneb (AMD) and Nehalem (Intel).
